MY HOMAGE TO THE AOL JOURNAL COMMUNITY

Taking the idea from Theresa Williams` Journal,{http://journals.aol.com/theresarrt7/TheresaWilliams-author/entries/933} I`ve decided to leave an entry that reflects the sadness that I feel about watching the diaspora of the AOL community. This is the poem I wrote as an homage to the AOL-J community on our 1st Anniversary; it continues to reflect my feelings towards all who have had the courage to share their lives and souls with me. Love and Prayers. V

"Metamorphosis"

The tiny worm hatches,
searches the net for sustenance.
She feasts on Pogo
gapes at Google
plays with Pics,
Windows Media offers refreshment,
but she`s still a worm.

How can she grow
find the cerebral food
to become a caterpillar?

Aloneness continues,
her only friends are Amazon and .coms
trying to sell her a soul.

She inches upward to Hometown
tastes a web page
and sees a friendly face
beckoning her to AOL journals.

Tentatively, she enters this strange world,
Butterflies are everywhere!
life is there to taste; prose, poetry, paintings,
the sharing of souls, of heartbreak and love.

She devours everything in sight, grows and grows
A fine caterpillar she is
having feasted on the butterflies` glorious wares.

Ah! It is time to rest
she spins a cocoon around herself
and sleeps in wonder.

Can I be a butterfly too?
can I be as pretty
as the wonderful Monarchs
of Journal-land?

She emerges from camouflage,
mothlike, she says hello,
and is welcomed by many others
Floating and flitting
touching her little nest.

She grows bolder, ponderously taking flight
and finds no judgement of her faltering attempts,
only encouragement, and love!

She becomes a butterfly,
offering what she can
to other, newer caterpillars
finding a butterfly`s true nature
the metamorphosis complete.

God bless you Vince you have honorably captured the essence of our soul's thirst for individuation. productivity and the use of our God given talents.  I will never forget my own metamorphosis this past year and now I stand in a veritable forest and understand completely the adage,  'I cannot see the forest for the trees"  cMp

Awe V.  you continue to melt butter better than a hot knife!  Floralilia also said it well in her blogger journal.  She drove home an analogy of people moving out to the suburbs.  The regular blogging community has forewarned of corporate AOL greed for a long time coming.  Time moves on ... we'll take our hearts, pack up the wagons and head west where the skies are bigger and bluer!

Sadly, Vince, AOL will not get it. They have become RAID to the delicate butterflies of this land. :-) ---Robbie

This is beautiful, Vince--- I remember too my metamorphasis in J-Land and how incredibly welcoming everyone was.  Thanks for reminding me.  I'm kind of in shock over the decimation of J-Land.  And I HATE seeing a banner ad over this very entry!  --Albert

{{{{{Mon Cher Vincent}}}}}

I remember when you first posted this beautiful poem for our J-Land 1st anniversary celebration in the summer of 2004. I also remember the thrill of finding that graphic which was so well suited for your artistic and poetic talents!  The poem is as inspiring today....perhaps even more inspiring...as it was then.  I am grateful to you for what it has meant to know you and to have the honor of calling you a friend...of lovingly calling you  {{{{{Mon Cher Vincent}}}}}

Thank you Vince for reminding me of this beautiful description of our journey.  It moved me then and it somehow has even more meaning for me now.  I have you on my links in my new journal, now if I could only figure out how to create alerts of new postings, I will have accomplished something.  I am getting used to my new address I think, it takes time, and unfortunately, AOL has given us plenty of that.
Blessings to you and all of us,

Beautiful Vince.  I too remember when you first posted this.  It will always represent this community...wherever we are.

Thank you Vince...I remember this, and it touched me again this morning.  On a lighter note...you get 50 cents for properly using diaspora in a sentence.  I hope to leave You with a smile.

Thanks for the email calling me here Vince.  It is so sad that AOL is insensitive to what j-land has meant to so many of us.  But, we are family...and we'll stick together.  Anywhere in cyberspace is no farther than a click away.

An excellent but sad poem, Vince. Certainly a pity this is all going on.

Mmm.. like a fine wine it hits the spot, leaves me desiring more, and hightens my senses. Thanks for the alert on this one.

Isn't it ironic after the most successful VIVI experience and celebration of excellence yet AOL does this to it's gem? Almost as if AOL finally saw all this excellence and monumnetal efforts of creativity and decided to capitalize on it. Of course that is a rediculous sentiment.

Be well... play hard... laugh often.

Thanks for this the second time Vince.
I have not been able to put into words
how sad I feel to see everyone taking
off in separate directions.
I'm posting at AOL International Journals
for now, there are still no ads there.
BTW ... I hope everyone that is still here
has figured out how to block the animated
ads (JPEG still show up) who would have thought
that the dreaded little red x in a box would
become such a welcome relief?
I hope we can all find a way to stay close.

Oh thankyou for alerting me to your journal, Vince! I have been feeling the wave of saddness too. I just wish folks would stay in fight for what they belive in. Nothing changes without some kind of challenge sometimes. I love that poem and glad to know not everyone are going their seperate ways.

Vince, I remember when you wrote this...  Loved it then, and now.  Though now it makes me sad, that so many beautiful butterflies are spreading their wings and leaving what used to be home....

Still great! Somehow, even though we are a bit scattered about, we'll all still find each other and journal life will be peaceful and comforting again...Blessings, Sassy

Oh, I remember this ~ it's beautiful, Vince.  Thank you for the reminder.  Floating and flitting is what we butterflys do, but we never stop caring and sharing.  And we're all still just a flutter-click away!............  :)
