Killing tools honed,
nomads
follow the herds,
never settling,
in homage to the instincts
of their prey.
Full bellies belie
a need,
a demand within,
to become.
Women`s berries
and intuition,
feed an idea
which allows the toiled soil
to sustain us.
Fire conquered
the cave warm.
A measure of safety.
Finally, time to ponder
learning to speak,
communicate.
Within, the self
sees its end,
recoils, confused.
God`s gift at Eden
a two-edged sword.
A new emotion,
not of want,
but sadness and fear,
exudes itself
to fill the cave.
Finally, inexorably
mortality is faced and conquered
as the first artist
draws of triumphs.
Deer and bison fall,
despair is vanquished,
bowing to sublimation.

Wow Vince! This one I'll have to savor for awhile, like a glass of fine wine. I'll be back...
Huge hugs and smiles,

Wow! I just absolutely love the way you put words together...thanks for the mentoring. ;) C. http://journals.aol.com/gdireneoe/thedailies
This reminded me of a band of Gypsies! I loved it.

The title gives this line away...and the meaning is not lost on me. Multi-layers of meaning to be peeled back and finally vanquished. What an interesting choice of words. Instead of eaten. Instead of devoured....removed entirely.
I shall eat my saddness one bite at a time.
Aren't Shamans usually female? Wonderful poem Vince.
how cool
Different from your usual posts but just as *EXCELLENT.*

Bison perhaps. :)
Would I be rude to comment on the pic? It stopped me in my tracks. It's been three years and you are now revealing yourself. ::::clap-clap-clap:::: You look like a professor/intellectual/author. Exactly as I expected, maybe even better. ;-)

I think you should be putting together a book! You won't need pictures, because your poems are so imageful. It reminded me of the metamorphis poem for us J-landers. It told a story from start to finish. There were several lines really enjoyed.
"in homage to the instincts of their prey."
"bellies belie" and
"Deer and bison fall, despair is vanquished, bowing to sublimation."
It is like you are reaching for truths within human beings that describes a deep journey we all take to the center. Today and tomorrow - like nomads ... it is a journey well fraught with worth. My salute!
Another terrific poem, really beautiful. I'm always happy to read your work.

great stuff!! :D
Well, as you know, I'm very intrigued with the idea of the Artist Shaman. It is the artist who sustain us, after all. Artists like you, Vince.
