B O O K S

Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counsellors, and the most patient of teachers.
Charles W. Eliot (1834 - 1926), The Happy Life, 1896

There is no mistaking a real book when one meets it. It is like falling in love.
Christopher Morley (1890 - 1957), O Magazine, December 2003

A good novel tells us the truth about its hero; but a bad novel tells us the truth about its author.
G. K. Chesterton (1874 - 1936)

A truly great book should be read in youth, again in maturity and once more in old age, as a fine building should be seen by morning light, at noon and by moonlight.
Robertson Davies

This entry was a pleasant surprise. I was just going through some of my 'old' books and said to my husband, " It's amazing how words upon paper can almost put the universe into your hands." Books are my most valuable possession.
Love the quotes you used, especially " A good novel tells the truth about its hero' but a bad novel tells us the truth about the author."  Thanks, Vince. *Barb*

Hi vince,
I agree with you 100% being that I am a book worm. I love to read and I enjoy reading all types of books, topics and I do have my share of collections of books. When I read a book I let my mind go into the world of the book I am reading and let my imagination be a character in the book. Thanks for sharing your view... Oh, and thanks for always visiting my journal and for you short but sweet words..Jessie

I love this entry, Vince.  I am a book lover.  I love reading about different subjects and topics.  They are my best friends...there are no enemies in books.  The quotes you used here are awesome.  thanx, V...gloria

Not so sure I agree with Chesterton totally. I think every novel good or bad reveals something about the author. But that's just me. Loved the quotes though.

I am a bibliophile!  Love that word!  Thank you for some wonderful quotes.

I like the last quote best. And these are the guidelines you are going by to write your novel? I was moving some of my books to my room today. I have quite a collection of John Grisham novels. He tells the best story. My only regret is not investing more money and time in the classics.

I love to re-read books just to see what I have gained through experience and what I see that I missed the first time.  I read "War and Peace" in my twenties and I want to read it atain soon.  The characters evlolve and grow so much.  Hopefully so have I.

I have friends who not only love to read but re-read books. And I can never quite seem to do that. Not that I don't love alot of the books I read, I dunno. I think about it but never actually pick up the book again unless I'm looking for a specific quote. Not a very good bookworm am I? :-)

I really like this entry.  I've recently taken up reading again.  It's wonderful to have that quiet time in another world or with exciting new friends.  I love it.

I loved these quotes - they're all so true!  I read, "Wind in the Willows", as a child, and then again a few years ago... I still keep it on my bookshelf :)  And of course, I'm always referring to "Max" in "Where the Wild Things Are" ;)  (I think I am Max.... he he)  I haven't been reading... I need to, I think... hmmmm.  Be well, Vince... L, Jenn

I love the quote from Morley.  Since I'm in a lifelong love affair with books I certainly identify with the sentiment!

Well, I finially found your journal and I am so glad I did. Thanks for reading mine and for the nice notes you leave it really keeps me encourged.

One of my fondest memories as a child is going to the book store and buying a book that would open my mind to some new and magical world.

I also love to read many kinds of books.  I am running out of space now for books so I just go to the library.  I have not yet read the books you just mentioned, but I will look into it.
